One of my favorite sagas is Star Wars. In short, it's because I see it as an allegory of the human condition, and how small choices can lead you to the 'dark side’, from which returning from is very difficult.
Out of all the movies (there's soon to be 9), one of my favorite scenes that gives me chills and gets me teary-eyed is in The Force Awakens.
Rey, a seemingly average woman from a random, remote planet, is discovering her power to use the Force and that her role in the fate of the galaxy and potential for greatness is far larger than she ever would have imagined.
As she becomes more powerful and influential, the bad guys who are in power start to take notice..
As such, one of the most powerful Jedis in the galaxy, Kylo Ren, is seeking her out to get her to either join him (he's a bad guy) or to kill her.
The scene at the end with Rey and her pal Finn having a lightsaber duel in the forest with Kylo Ren beautifully demonstrates a metaphor for a person's 'awakening'. In the movie, it's Rey's awakening to her Force-powers (like the title of the movie, lol), and the metaphor of a person's awakening to their own self power, no mystical Force needed..
See the quote from "Reflections of Love" by Marianne Williamson, popularized by the film Coach Carter and often attributed to Nelson Mandela.
You know, the one that starts with, "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure...." for more info on what I'm talking about here.
Anyway.....
Rey gets knocked out, Finn takes the lightsaber and fights Kylo and in the conflict, Finn's lightsaber is flung far out of reach from both him and Kylo.
Kylo then does the classic Star Wars "Force pull" to bring the lightsaber to him. He then looks perplexed as it's not coming towards him; such a move is childs play for a powerful Jedi like himself.
Finally, the lightsaber leaps up but instead of coming to him, it goes to Rey who has recovered and took control of the lightsaber through her own power with the Force.
She has a look of shock and amazement on her face as she's grasping the lightsaber, looking down at it, and then again at Kylo, and in this moment, she is no longer "Rey From a Random Planet" but rather someone who just overpowered an insanely powerful Jedi and a force to be reckoned with.
Kylo is looking back, equally shocked and noticeably afraid for the first time, and looks back at her with an expression of, "Ahhhhh fuck", bewildered that she's as powerful as he. Up to this point, no one in the galaxy has been able to stand up to him like this.
This scene gives me so many fucking chills I'm shaking just thinking about it.
We may not have a huge, defining moment of when we realize all at once, "I'm powerful, and I can do anything." like so in the movie. It may come like that for some, for others, it may be in consistently making decisions to entertain empowering thoughts day after day, week after week, through stress, anxiety, loneliness until we get up one day, like any other day, except a surge of energy comes over you and you think, "I'm fucking awesome, and there's no challenge that will crumble me. Those who stand in opposition will get exposed and they will not bring me down."
And then they will fear you. Those who oppose you will cower before you.
You must then continue to practice this dominion over your thoughts and actions for a lifetime lest you succumb to the Dark Side out of pride. But from this first realization (or awakening), it is difficult to go back to a life of mediocrity and have less than stellar expectations of your life and potential.
This scene also shows how as you grow and become more noticeable, only then will people try to take you down. People don't try to knock down those that blend in, it's only those who rise up that are attacked, or belittled, or discouraged from doing what they were born to do.
Know that as you find yourself getting pushed around mentally or off your psyche thinking thoughts that you're unworthy, unable, not talented enough, or whatever bullshit you may be telling yourself, it's because people are becoming afraid of your growth and path to success.
